Céilidh in the Cathedral

St Matthews in the City, Hobson St., Auckland, New Zealand | 27 October 2012

What a fun night it was at our first ceilidh! Quite frankly, we went there for a taste of haggis but ended up enjoying the dancing as well.

céilidh or ceilidh is a traditional Gaelic social gathering, which usually involves playing Gaelic folk music and dancing. Interestingly too, Céilidhs facilitated courting and prospects of marriage for young people and they are still an important and popular social outlet in rural parts of Ireland and Scotland, especially in the Gaelic-speaking regions.  (Wikipedia)
